Worle FC are delighted to announce that Benn Watson and Benji King have been appointed as joint First Team managers.

Benn and Benji

Background: Benn Watson

Benn played for various clubs around Bristol and moved into coaching at a young age, joining St Aldhelms. From there he moved on to the Assistant Manager role at AFC Brislington before earning the First Team Manager position. Since that time Benn enjoyed a highly successful spell in charge at Highridge United, gaining promotion to the Somerset County League in his second season and building a very strong side. Since leaving Highridge and moving to Weston Benn joined Banwell as Assistant Manager for a couple of months, before hearing about the Worle FC vacancy: “When I heard about the Worle position I knew it was somewhere I could settle and build another successful side!”.

Background: Benji King

Benji is 19 years old, however he has already gained a wealth of experience in coaching and football analysis. He worked at fourth tier Cardiff City LFC as an analyst – now known as Gwalia United – in a league title-winning side as well as putting in two stints at Bridgwater United. Benji has gained experience in other roles within coaching at Hutton FC and youth football.

“I’m ready to bring fresh ideas to the table to try and get this team safe and up the league.”

We sat down with Benn and Benji to ask them about the job ahead and to find out a bit more about them.

What qualities do you feel you bring to the role?

Benn: I am calm, I like the challenge whatever that may be, I always want to better myself and keep improving. I won’t scream and shout unless it’s needed and want to get everyone singing from the same hymn sheet.

Benji: I’ll bring new ideas to the table with a new philosophy – bringing entertaining and rewarding football with my knowledge within the sport already on how we can be successful. I will bring honesty and passion to the table, always putting 110 per cent in wanting the best for the club and looking to build relationships with all the players at the club to have a strong unity at Worle.

What qualities do you look for in your players?

Benn: Work rate is massive for myself, if you want to progress you need to work hard at training, matchdays and days in between. Fitness is a massive part of the Somerset Prem and we need to be able to compete at the highest levels every weekend.

Benji: With my players I want them to show they have the will and determination to play for the club, as well as putting in everything they’ve got to play for me and Benn to become successful.

Do you anticipate making changes to the squad?

Benn: We have spoken to the Club as a whole and have said that we would give everyone a chance to be a First Team player. With that said we are looking to bring in a couple of players, freshen up the side and also help the Reserves with progression too.

Benji: Within the squad everyone at the club will be given a chance if they have shown to us they deserve it. It’s also vital we go in with the fresh mindset of not knowing too many of the boys so we can have a clean slate for everyone. We have a couple of bodies already coming in to add even more quality to this squad and looking at other options at ToolStation clubs.

What are your expectations for the first team this season?

Benn: Our aim is to avoid relegation, get to pre-season where we can then work with the players and start building for hopefully a better few seasons ahead and a successful one to go with it.

Benji: This season, from our perspective, the goal is obviously staying up. Once we achieve this we will look to lay our foundations down for next season to show what we are actually about at this football club and really establish ourselves.
